D.O.C. (DOC) means "Denominazione d'Origine Controllata". This is a term used by the department of agriculture in Italy to legaly define the wine growing region. Usually presant to assure quality.

What is D.O.C.G. (DOCG)?

D.O.C.G. (DOCG) is the same as D.O.C. but with the further assurance of "Grantita", or "Guarantee".D.O.C.G. (DOCG) is the same as D.O.C. but with the further assurance of "Grantita", or "Guarantee".

What is Barrigue?

Barrigue is a small, usually French, oak barrel used to age wine or other alcohol such as whiskey.

Why the name "Cantine" ?

In Italian, the word "Cantina" or "Cantine" referes to a cellar or winery.

What does "Amarone" mean?

"Amarone" is the term given to a particular wine making process that produces a full-bodied and powerfull red wine.

What does the term "Passito" mean?

The term "Passito" referes to the process of drying the grapes for some time on straw matts to concentrate the sugars before pressing. The process ususally results in a very sweet straw colored wine suitable for deserts or as an aperitif.

What is the significance of the term "Superiore"?

This is a term given to wines that meet and exceed the standards of the D.O.C. Typically these wines are aged longer and have a higher alcohol content.
